Country Biscuits
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 and 1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
2/3 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Sift together flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the flour mixture, and add milk and shortening. Begin kneading with hands until thoroughly mixed. (A small amount of milk may be added if needed). Turn onto floured board, and knead gently a few times. Pat dough to desired thickness (1/2 to 3/4 inch). Cut into biscuits, and place on un-greased baking sheet. Brush tops with melted butter or shortening, and bake in preheated oven until browned (10 to 13 minutes).
